Wednesday Wish List: Selfridges White Christmas

30 Nov

Last week, I spied the Selfridges Christmas windows and while I wasn’t overwhelmed, I was certainly inspired. There is just something about crisp, clean white at Christmas, it’s almost iconic. All of these pieces look super pristine and are exclusive to Selfridges – I didn’t know they had such a large range of exclusive products until recently. The likes of Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors, Toywatch, Ralph Lauren and McQueen all do exclusive pieces so it’s well worth checking out if you’re after something a little special. Are you inspired by winter white this season?

Wednesday Wish List – Polka dotty

19 Oct

Step aside
stripes,
polka dots are here to reign supreme as our print of the
season. Don’t get me wrong, I’m more than partial to stripes and all things
nautical but there comes a time when something new and quirky grabs your
attention. Polka dots have always been one of the more girly, ditsy prints but
this season they go grown up and elegant thanks to the likes of Stella
McCartney and Marc Jacobs. Wear big, shiny paillette discs and smaller circles
on sheer fabrics for a sexy twist or big bold dots and bright colour
combinations for a more eclectic look.

Wednesday Wish List: The owl trend

28 Sep

Woo knew that owls would be such a big
trend on the high street?! Let’s face it, they aren’t the cutest or most obvious animal to like, unless you’re Michael from Anastasia & Duck! I remember
they first appeared on the high street, it was actually quite a few seasons ago on necklaces at Forever 21, Topshop
and the like. It seemed like a short and sweet microtrend but a quick glance down the high street and you’ll see an
abundance of owl print on clothing as well as the owl jewels which we’ve seen
everywhere. It seems like owls are the new swallow/bird/butterfly/insert animal
trend here but there’s more to the owl trend than a random surge in popularity
of a particular animal. Marc Jacobs used an owl motif in his AW09 collection
and owls were also a huge trend in the Seventies, which is one of the stand out
trends of this season. Cute and quirky, there are so many different incantations of owls whether it’s a realistic owl print or an adorable cartoon version. If you’re a fan of adorable owls, here are my top picks
on the high street:

Wednesday Wish List

27 Jul

I’m having a pretty rough week which means two things: lots of moaning on Twitter (sorry!) but also a Wednesday Wish List full of lovely pampering treats.

New Look geekasaurus pyjamas – £12.99

For me, pampering = staying in pjs, doing my nails and watching movies. Cute pyjamas are obviously a vital ingredient. I love these geekasaurus ones from New Look. Let’s face it, anyone who has a blog is at least a half-geek so these are very apt.

Boux Avenue Leonie silk robe – £85

Everyone needs a lovely silk robe to swish around the house in. There are lots of cheap satin ones on the high street, but for some proper pampering you need silk with a touch of lace. Perfect for curling up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and a movie.

Miss Selfridge aztec print cardigan – £45

If lounging around in a robe isn’t your thing, you can’t beat some soft knits. I seem to have an ever growing pile of worn-to-death knits which are super soft and always make me feel good. The oversize shape of this cardi is perfect for snuggling up in but the bold print is far too nice to keep it for indoor wear only.

Holistic Silk lavender eye mask – £41

Holistic Silk are the Chanel of the eye mask world, with their silk and velvet, lavender-scented ultra luxe eye masks. Lavender is such a soothing scent and instantly relaxes you so this is a must have for stressed out times.

Wednesday Wish List

13 Jul
Desa Pony in Layers

My handbag habit is getting pretty serious these days. Apart for the Alexander Wang, they’re all pretty subtle though, aside from the soft leather and a few hardware details they look pretty ordinary and under the radar, exactly how handbags should look I think. Which is why I adore the bags by luxury brand Desa. This ruffled leather beauty is £435 and available at their stores in St Martin’s Courtyard in Covent Garden and Hamstead high street or online
Mellow Yellow Jenvy

I had my eye on these colourful Jenvy platforms a while ago and I’m finding it really hard to resist them, especially now that they have a massive 60% off in the Sarenza sale. I already have a pair of crazy high Mellow Yellow platforms and can attest to their comfort, I even wore them to drive in! These babies are just £60.40 in the sale from £151, get them while you can.

Medwinds Marsella tote

Back in February, I fell in lust with the Marsella tote when I went to the Medwinds showroom in Barcelona. The leather was unbelievably soft and the size was absolutely perfect for carrying a laptop or iPad. When I saw it again at the UK press launch, it was incredibly difficult to leave without casually slinging the sample over my shoulder and pretending it was mine! The tote is available on the website for £109.

Rare pleated chiffon midi skirt

I’ve been enamoured with midi length pleated chiffon skirts since I first clapped eyes on the elusive Whistles Carrie skirt. This version from Rare hasn’t caused a stampeed just yet, but it’s sassy on the knee length and deep purple colour make it a great buy for colour blocking this season and pairing with warmer, Autumnal tones next season. Best of all, it’s just £35 and available on the Rare website

Bitching & Junkfood Remade bitchy stud shorts.

These Bitching & Junkfood Remade shorts are all sorts of rad in one teeny pair of reworked vintage shorts. They took a pair of high-waisted Levis 501s, distressed them by hand for custom rips and shredded and added some killer spike studs down the side. Available at Bitching & Junkfood for £75.

Aqua Fleetwood maxi dress

Aqua are one of my newest favourite labels, their structural and futuristic designs feature strong lines and striking silhouettes. This maxi dress is a little different from their usual slashed and cut out dresses, but I adore the structured shoulders and bold print which is a little Christopher Kane. Available at Asos for £140.

Wednesday Wish List

15 Jun
How perfect is this pretty fan for the hot weather, especially on the stifling hot tube. It’s by a London-based family business called Domakaya, who specialise in limited-edition accessories. The collection includes handbags, hats, scarves and shawls adorned with beading, emboirdery, brooches, lace and velvet trims. Domakaya has recently been featured in all the big glossies including Vogue, Elle, Grazia and Instyle. Available here
Next season sees the launch of Jasper Garvida’s first limited edition piece, the gorgeous moss green silk Katherine dress. Jasper wanted to go back to the days when luxury was unattainable, special and highly covetable. There will only be twenty of these gorgeous dresses available via the website from August 2011, with each having their own serial number.

Speaking of luxury, I think it’s meaning has lots it’s way over the years. Nowadays it’s all about products with the logo emblazoned all over it. That’s why I love English, family-run firm Tusting so much. For over 130 years, five generations have been tanning, grading and trading beautiful, subtle  leather pieces which are pretty much free of logos. I adore their soft form travel bags, the eyecatching orange colour of this bag just highlights the beautiful workmanship even more. Available here

Is wishing for next season’s pieces cheating? I just can’t help but covet Maggie Angus’ collection for Autumn/Winter 2011. It’s inspired by nocturnal creatures and it has cosmic influences. Each piece is made from black glittered Perspex, reflecting the mysterious and magical universe at night. My favourite piece is the Ursula bear necklace, bears are my favourite animals. Available here

I was fortunate enough to meet jewellery designer Lauren Adriana towards the end of last week at a QVC event. This girl really knows her jewels; she is a qualified gemmologist and has a super exclusive, super expensive mainline collection. She also has a collection with QVC which is more affordable but still has her signature 70s-sinpired design and precious stones. This black agate and 1.8ct citrine ring is so bold, so me! Available here
