Coveting Sock Garters

25 May

My slight obsession with underwear as outerwear is steadily growing. I’ve gone beyond the obvious slips, lace and bralets and I’m in search of subtle ways of introducing this trend into, well pretty much any outfit! Sock garters by SWANclothing seem to be the perfect remedy. I stumbled upon them while browsing on Fashion Toast and I think it’s safe to say I’ve fallen in lust.

Traditional sock garters or suspenders were originally worn by men to stop their dressing socks from slipping down and bunching. However, the invention elastic allowed for socks which *shock horror* stay up by themselves meant that sock garters became less commonplace.

SWANclothing sock garters started as a bit of a whim. I believe the original creations were slightly more traditional mid-calf level garters however, the ones I saw on Fashion Toast were thigh level. They look absolutely perfect for both my underwear as outerwear obsession as well as my hosiery addiction. My OTK socks could use some extra detailing to stop them from looking boring, and I have a ton of brightly coloured tights which I’ve gone off but would look amazing if I lopped off the top and had something to hold them up with. They are handmade and I love the metal swan detail, I am so ordering these by the end of this week. I just need to figure out if I want classic black or pale pink….

Frock Me with TK Maxx: Underwear as Outerwear

8 May

I’m not normally one to sit and watch telly all day, truth be told I usually half watch a show on my laptop as I blog or eat. But this weekend I’m spending the rainy weekend in Hampshire, which means telly galore! This morning I caught a repeat of last Sunday’s Frock Me with TK Maxx, with Alexa Chung, Henry Holland and Gemma Cairney, which was the Underwear as Outerwear episode. Regular readers will know that this is one of my favourite trends – here’s my blogpost on it.

Here are a couple of behind the scenes videos from this episode:

Henry Holland’s take on underwear as outerwear

Frock Off

Here are my top five picks from the high-street:

Topshop zip lace slip skirt – £25. Looks like a vintage slip but it’s toughened up with the exposed zip.

Rare floral cropped top – £26. This little top is so versatile, I would wear it with rolled up trousers, a slip skirt or even over a tshirt or dress.

New Look lace panel bodysuit – £16. Bodysuits are my absolute essential for this trend, and a little touch of lace makes this one absolutely perfect for layering showing off.

Miss Selfridge lace cami – £25. A very subtle take on this trend, you really can’t go wrong with a pretty lace cami.

Henry Holland for Pretty Polly tights – £12. I know some people have already started wearing suspenders with shorts and tights but I don’t think I’m quite there! That’s why I absolutely love these tights.

Frock Me with TK Maxx is on Sundays on Channel 4. For more information check out www.facebook.com/tkmaxx
