Sneak peek: Karl Lagerfeld’s affordable line

22 Dec

This week sees the release of the first couple of pictures from Karl Lagerfeld’s hotly anticipated affordable range, which launches online exclusively at Net-a-Porter. The 100 piece “masstige”  collection will debut on January 25th during Paris Couture Week (an odd move as it’s an affordable range) and will be priced from £40 for a canvas bag. Aimed at women in their late teens to early 20s, the collection features pieces from trousers, sweatshirts, skirts, shirts, dresses, tshirts, shoes and bags with a rock edge. Karl stated: “I just want not too expensive clothes that people may like and perhaps want to wear. That was my concept for a long time, but my business partners in the past wanted to be like Chanel or Fendi without putting behind what is needed to be like that … Now I am feeling we are ready for the right job — the way to do things right in a modern, unusual way.”

Karl Lagerfeld for Macys collection

11 Aug

Earlier on, I posted about the Karl Lagerfeld for Macys collection, his latest venture into affordable fashion after the H&M collaboration a few years ago. The overall look of the collection is different to the preview campaign shots I posted, there are plenty of Karl trademarks from the mainly monochrome colour palette to the high collars. There are elements of Chanel as well as more girly, floral pieces. The 45-piece limited edition collection will hit Macy’s stores as well as the website later this month. What do you think of the collection, will it cause queues and be an instant sell out like his collection for H&M?

25 Jul

If the sketches I posed in my Friday Fashion Fix post whet your whistle for more from Karl Lagerfeld’s collection for Macys then your luck is in. A couple of images have been released which give a taster of his latest cut price collection. The 45 piece collection will his 235 Macys stores and the website on August 31st and prices range from $50 to $170. This pretty dress is $109 and is very girly and romantic, very different to Karl’s collection with H&M almost seven years ago.

Mass exodus at Halston

Halston has been hitting the headlines on a nearly daily basis with big shock departures. Creative director Marios Schwab and board member Tamara Mellon are both out, alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Harvey Weinstein. Times, they are a-changing. Watch this space for more news.

Anja Rubik gets married!

Onto happier news, last weekend supermodel Anja Rubik married her model boyfriend in an intimate ceremony in Mallorca. Her dress was designed by Peter Dundas of Pucci. It was a very contemporary design, with a shorter front, the back was a more traditional longer longer back and train. It’s not to everyone’s taste though. What do you think?

Dylan Lauren’s stunning wedding dress.

I’m sorry but the two Kates (Moss and The Duchess) cannot compete with Dylan Lauren’s fairytale wedding dress, which was designed by her father Ralph Lauren. The dress is handmade duchesse-satin and silk tulle with a tiered nine-foot train. For me, this is the ultimate wedding dress, it’s beautifully fitted and shows off her figure but also has the wow factor without straying into meringue territory. Perfection.

Carine Roitfeld’s styling V, inspired by Elizabeth Taylor.

There is no stopping Carine Roitfeld. She already has two campaigns under her freelancing belt and she’s set to make her return to styling magazine editorials in V’s September issue. The ‘Heroes Issue’ features a 72-page story on Elizabeth Taylor and was shot by Mario Testino. Cannot wait to see this when it’s out.

Who’s that girl?

Read and then re-read this sentance: It’s Katie Holmes. Yes Joey from Dawson’s Creek. Yes, Mrs Tom Cruise. Yes, Suri’s mother. What a transformation, bravo Vogue Spain. Looking forward to seeing more from this 9-page editorial which features beaucoup de Louis Vuitton.

Karl Lagerfeld for…Macys!

Karl Lagerfeld’s super affordable range for Macys is the most exciting news since, well, his sell out range for H&M. Macys have released these sketches which show a couple of pieces from the range which launches on August 31st. Check back over the weekend for images of the actual range. And don’t forget to mark the date in your calendar!

Chanel AW11 campaign preview, styled by Carine Roitfeld

9 Jun
Trust Carine Roitfeld to inject some sex into Chanel. The ex-EIC of Vogue Paris styled the Autumn/Winter 2011 campaign for super luxe label Chanel, which was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld as usual with Freja Beha Erichsen making her fifth consecutive appearance in the brand’s campaign. The images have a very raw, young and edgy feel compared to the polished, prim images of season’s past. If these preview shots are anything to go by, the campaign is going to be sizzling hot and a departure from the typical Chanel aesthetic. The beginning of a new era, perhaps?

Fashion Fix

27 Mar

A while ago, I used to do a weekly post called Fashion Fix which kind of rounded up all the fashion news into one post. I’m feeling a little nostalgic so I thought I would bring it back 🙂

Revillon and Rodarte?

There have been lots of whisperings that Rodarte would be bought by LVMH group as CEO Pierre-Yves Roussel has been front row for the past two seasons.  Now, there are rumours that someone else may have already snapped them up. Apparently the Mulleavy sisters are in talks with French furrier Revillon. According to the rumours, their first collection will be shown in July alongside Paris couture. Rodarte’s rep denies the rumours, but watch this space.  I’m not sure how I feel about this to be honest, I just feel that fur is a little unnecessary these days. It would definitely be a very controversial move for them.

In other Rodarte news, they are collaborating with director Darren Aronofsky on his new film Black Swan, which stars Natalie Portman.

Theory and Proenza?

There must be something in the air, the lads from Proenza Schouler have apparently met with Andrew Rosen, CEO of Theory, who may be interested in a stake of the American label. Theory already invests in the likes of Rag and Bone and Alice + Olivia.

Tom Ford womenswear steams ahead

This is the most exciting news of all. Tom Ford is on a recruiting spree for his womenswear design team. Here’s a roll call of who has been hired: Caroline Tixier (Givenchy), Pablo Coppola (McQueen) and Michael Lewis (Gucci,  Louis Vuitton and Burberry). Ford is reported to return to womenswear for Autumn 2011, probably with a presentation rather than a show either set in New York or Milian. I cannot wait to see what the creative outcome is, but I’m sure it will completely blow me away.

Stella shrinks Gap

Stella McCartney’s first collection for Gap Kids sold out of large sizes within hours, so she’s cut everything slightly smaller this season. To be honest, I didn’t pay the last collection much mind, seeing as it was for kids. But I may try to squeeze myself into something as I’ve heard it’s amazing!
New Model/Designer

Irina Lazareanu is the latest model to jump on the model/designer bandwagon. I do like her style, but to be honest I’m sick of people (celebrities and models) deviating from the day job to dabble in design. Lindsey Lohal and Ungaro, I’m talking to you! Designers do such an amazing job I really feel this undermines their vision, creativity and talent.

Fendi and Chanel hit New York

Andre Leon Talley has confirmed reports that Karl Lagerfeld is shooting both Chanel and Fendi campaigns in New York. He was shooting Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee Kershaw in Chanel around SoHo and the Lower East Side during the week. If the stupid BA strike wasn’t on, I would be so tempted to jump on a flight to do some Karl-stalking!

Paris – New Years Eve 2009-2010

2 Jan
Happy new year, darlings!
I hope all of you had a fantastic NYE and saw in the new decade in style. I had an absolutely amazing New Year’s Eve in Paris, it was absolutely unforgettable! It was snowing, not really heavily, but how special is that?! The road trip was epic, over 500 miles in 2 days, but way worth it. This is the furthest I’ve roadtripped so I wasn’t sure what to wear but I knew comfort was paramount! I wore something similar to what I would wear on a flight, a comfy dress and leggings with thick socks. It’s an unbeatable travel combination!
Dress – Blue Inc
We decided to head to the Champs Elysees for midnight, it was like a massive street party the atmosphere was crazy! It’s by far the chicest way to see in the new year, and I thought it was very appropriate to be wearing new clothes from head to toe. It was so unbelievably cold though. I did wear a coat, but could have done with scarf, gloves and thermals!
Top – Topshop, Belt – Primark, Skirt – River Island, Boots – New Look
The next day, we took in the sites of Paris. For me, that meant heading to Chanel on Rue Cambon and then onto Colette while keeping an eye out for Karl Lagerfeld’s yellow Hummer!! I didn’t spot him, but there’s always next time 😉 After seeing Coco Before Chanel, I’ve been a bit obsessed by Chanel and I’ve been dying to see the Rue Cambon store. Unfortunately all the shops were closed but I took loads of pictures of the gorgeous window display.

Cape – ASOS

While we were in Paris, it was snowing very lightly. However, on the way to Calais, the snow started coming down pretty hard. So hard that we were in standstill traffic for what seemed like forever…well long enough to create a, well it’s not quite a snowman but that’s what I’ll call it!I That was the perfect end to my mini adventure, I hadn’t played in the snow for years!
