The campaign trail: Gucci and Tom Ford AW11

18 Jul

The Gucci and Tom Ford campaigns for autumn/winter 2011 are both colour saturated visual feasts shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The Gucci campaign features Abbey Lee Kershaw, Joan Smalls, Sigrid Agren and Emily Baker.

I think the Tom Ford campaign may be my favourite out of the two. His campaign features Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel.

Anja Rubik unveiled as face of Kurt Geiger

Stunning supermodel and Fashion Daydreams favourite Anja Rubik has been unveiled as the new face of Kurt Geiger for Autumn/Winter 2011. Building on their heritage as a British brand, the campaign was shot on location in London and Anja is seen rocking Dalmation print ankle boots from the high end Kurt Geiger London collection. Creative Director Rebecca Farrar-Hockley commented, “I am thrilled to have Anja starring as the face of our AW11 campaign.  She personifies the spirit of the Kurt Geiger girl, effortlessly stylish with an edge of urban glamour.”

Nine West launches website.

In more shoe news, American shoe and accessory brand Nine West have just launched their first UK transactional website bringing their flair and style to fashionistas in the click of a mouse. Just in time too, as September sees the launch of their highly anticipted Shoelaboration with Giles Deacon.

Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model launches

Last week saw the launch of the latest series of Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model with super host and judge Elle Macpherson, who is joined by fellow judges Julien Macdonald, Grace Woodward and Calvin Klein star Charley Speed. One of the best thing about BINTM is acting as an unofficial judge from your sofa, there’s now an app on the Facebook page to predict the result of each show as the season goes on to make it a little more fun.

Tom Ford comes to London

Persistent rumours currently doing the rounds bring the news that Tom Ford is going to show during London Fashion Week! Exciting indeed, I think this would be great for LFW and entice more editors to take note and attend, unfortunately LFW is seen as the take-it-or-leave-it fashion week with many editors skipping the first few days or the entire event.

Fab Frocks gets married!

The big news today is that the lovely Tor from Fab Frocks got married today! Her wedding was an absolute riot, her dress was stunning and the theme for the wedding was Alice in Wonderland. Everything was perfection, her attention to detail is incredible. For a sneak peek into her gorgeous wedding, check out her wedding blog. Congratulations to the happy couple, wishing you all the happiness in the world.

Bloggers say: wear sunglasses with Mister Spex

16 May
A couple of weeks ago, the lovely folk over at German sunglass emporium Mister Spex approached me to be part of a fabulous campaign to celebrate their launch in the UK. Along with a few other lovely bloggers, I was asked to predict the hottest fashion trend for 2011 as well as my favourite glasses from the site. I chose these aviators by Tom Ford as my summer hit. Aviators are a classic sunglass style which never goes out of fashion. Although Rayban aviators are iconic, they aren’t very flattering as they have a very flat front which can stick out. The Tom Ford sunglasses wrap around slightly to give them a more flattering shape. The rose gold frame and graduated tint lens are very on trend as the seventies are huge this season and beyond, you can’t go wrong with a classic shape updated with contemporary styling.

If I’ve got you thinking about sunglasses, make sure you check out Mister Spex, they have a simply mind-boggling range of sunglasses and I promise you will find something that suits you. If you need some inspiration, check out what other bloggers have chosen here

Julia Restoin Roitfeld in Tom Ford for V magazine

24 Dec

I’m back in the land of Internet, it’s a Christmas miracle! Plenty of blogging to come over the next few days. First off though, a little Christmas Eve treat in the form of Julia Restoin Roitfeld’s self portraits in Tom Ford. What a delicious combination! I’m a huge fan of both Julia and Tom Ford, together they make an impossibly chic picture of fashion perfection.

Tom Ford Womenswear sneak peek

20 Nov

Tom Ford has been very tactical about his return to womenswear. Over recent years, fashion has been less fast fashion and more hyper-speed fashion. Everything is so instant, live tweets and twitpics at shows have bought next season to the masses instantly par example. Mr Ford has gone a little old school though. Everything is very exclusive and controlled, you may remember that his show was very intimate with only 100 or so attendees. Although Vogue’s got the exclusive on the mega exciting images, some of the images have been leaked online. Only some though, Vogue still has all of the images in full. He’s spoken of his ambitions to become like Armani or Chanel in the future, which I truely think he will achieve. I’ve adored his designs for years and really respect his work at Gucci. But even without that immense talent, he’s going against the grain by being different and maintaining control.

H&M collaboration – Lanvin!

2 Sep

There have been several whisperings about who the next H&M collaboration will be with. Lots of names have been thrown around, from Thomas Maier of Bottega Veneta and Carolina Hererra to Vivienne Westwood and Tom Ford. But the rumour-mill can stop now, it’s just been announced that it is…LANVIN!! Be still my beating heart! I think it may just be the perfect partnership. I’ve never actually been caught up in the frenzy of H&M collaborations, though I did really like the recent Sonia Rykiel collection. But I would actually join a queue and (im)patiently wait in line to get my hands on a H&M x Lanvin piece.
I love the work of Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, it’s super-luxe, utterly gorgeous and totally unattainable. Even the Lanvin x Acne collaboration had a shockingly high price point. So of course I would love the chance to get my hands on some Lanvin…at H&M prices. There is one niggling doubt in the back of my mind though – quality. With H&M, quality can be a bit hit and miss but at those prices it’s forgiveable. But when they collaborate with the likes of Viktor & Rolf, Comme des Garcon and Karl Lagerfeld, you feel a bit cheated at the poor quality. I was mildly curious about the Jimmy Choo collaboration and was very disappointed.

The collection is previewing on 2nd November and is out on 23rd November. Here’s one of the viral videos H&M released, this one indicating that it was Lanvin:

Fashion Fix

27 Mar

A while ago, I used to do a weekly post called Fashion Fix which kind of rounded up all the fashion news into one post. I’m feeling a little nostalgic so I thought I would bring it back 🙂

Revillon and Rodarte?

There have been lots of whisperings that Rodarte would be bought by LVMH group as CEO Pierre-Yves Roussel has been front row for the past two seasons.  Now, there are rumours that someone else may have already snapped them up. Apparently the Mulleavy sisters are in talks with French furrier Revillon. According to the rumours, their first collection will be shown in July alongside Paris couture. Rodarte’s rep denies the rumours, but watch this space.  I’m not sure how I feel about this to be honest, I just feel that fur is a little unnecessary these days. It would definitely be a very controversial move for them.

In other Rodarte news, they are collaborating with director Darren Aronofsky on his new film Black Swan, which stars Natalie Portman.

Theory and Proenza?

There must be something in the air, the lads from Proenza Schouler have apparently met with Andrew Rosen, CEO of Theory, who may be interested in a stake of the American label. Theory already invests in the likes of Rag and Bone and Alice + Olivia.

Tom Ford womenswear steams ahead

This is the most exciting news of all. Tom Ford is on a recruiting spree for his womenswear design team. Here’s a roll call of who has been hired: Caroline Tixier (Givenchy), Pablo Coppola (McQueen) and Michael Lewis (Gucci,  Louis Vuitton and Burberry). Ford is reported to return to womenswear for Autumn 2011, probably with a presentation rather than a show either set in New York or Milian. I cannot wait to see what the creative outcome is, but I’m sure it will completely blow me away.

Stella shrinks Gap

Stella McCartney’s first collection for Gap Kids sold out of large sizes within hours, so she’s cut everything slightly smaller this season. To be honest, I didn’t pay the last collection much mind, seeing as it was for kids. But I may try to squeeze myself into something as I’ve heard it’s amazing!
New Model/Designer

Irina Lazareanu is the latest model to jump on the model/designer bandwagon. I do like her style, but to be honest I’m sick of people (celebrities and models) deviating from the day job to dabble in design. Lindsey Lohal and Ungaro, I’m talking to you! Designers do such an amazing job I really feel this undermines their vision, creativity and talent.

Fendi and Chanel hit New York

Andre Leon Talley has confirmed reports that Karl Lagerfeld is shooting both Chanel and Fendi campaigns in New York. He was shooting Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee Kershaw in Chanel around SoHo and the Lower East Side during the week. If the stupid BA strike wasn’t on, I would be so tempted to jump on a flight to do some Karl-stalking!
