Introducing Liam Fahy

13 Dec

A couple of months ago, I stumbled upon the lovely Liam Fahy at the LFW exhibitions. His striking shoe collection immediately caught my eye, the shoes are spectacular from a distance and even better close up with really great attention to detail and brilliant Italian craftship. The collection epitomises luxury, with each of the limited edition shoes inscribed with a signature nickel detailing on the sole. The Spring/Summer 2012 collection, The Elegant Collectables, is inspired by Colonial African school uniforms, liquoirish, Pan Am girls and 1950s metallic typography, resulting in a breathtaking collection of sharp wedges, subtle platforms and soft textures. Although it’s a SS12 collection, the darker colour palette and luxe fabrics give it a seasonless feel. This is what Liam said about the collection: “The increasing pace of commercial fashion is restricting genuine creativity amongst so many designers, as a result the boundaries of seasons have become  blurred, so why not create a collection embracing a schizophrenic season. It’s about having the confidence not to change so fast.”

Shoe daydreams at The Box Boutique

11 Oct

In keeping with the theme of more personal blogger
events, I was recently invited to The Box Boutique by my good friend Matthew Zorpas. I popped by during Vogue’s Fashion Night Out but as it was one of the
busiest spots of the evening and I didn’t get a proper chance to peruse, I was
excited to pop back and check out their fantastic range. Owned by fabulous
Russian sisters Yulia and Elena Pasheykina, the concept is to provide a sanctuary
for shoe lovers to indulge their fantasies. The lavish décor features an
abundance of quirky features from neon lighting, pug and bowler hat lamps,
gorgeous chandeliers and plenty of baroque touches; the perfect setting for
their eclectic collection of designers.

Frustrated and inspired in equal measures by the
difficulty of buying more under the radar, niche footwear brands, Yulia and
Elena decided to take the matter into their own hands by opening The Box Boutique on Maddox Street in Mayfair. Home to both established and emerging
labels including Pollini, Raphael Young, Ruthie Davis and Giambattista Valli,
the Mayfair store is more carefully curated shoebox of wonders than shoe
boutique.

After checking out the collection, I had the chance to play dress up in the gorgeous shoes of course as well as the accessories including jewellery, bags and a divine hooded shawl. Huge thanks to Elena, Yulia and Matt for making my shoe daydreams come true.

Marks & Spencer AW11 accessories collection

26 Sep

Last week, I was invited to a fabulous Mad Hatter’s Tea Party hosted by M&S to showcase their seriously covetable accessories collection. I’ve been a long time fan of M&S accessories, one of my favourite oversize clutches is from the Limited Collection. Held at the beautiful Kettner’s champagne bar, the wood panelled walls and high ceilings gave the venue an old school, sophisticated gentlemen’s club  feel which was the perfect setting for showing off the decadent collections from Marks & Spencer.
The Boy Meets Girl Collection – As the name suggests, slightly androgynous. Think lace up boots, the softest knits, buckles and tassled loafers.

The Global Traveller Collection – A riot of shiny sequins, bright colours glinting glitter and gorgeous textures. The cutaway ankle boots are on my lust list.

The Wilderness Collection – Earthy colours combined with animal prints, tactile knits and faux fur for a luxe, bohemian collection.

The Nordic Narnia Collection – Think twinkling, glittering trinkets in icy cool shades of silver, ice blues and pretty pinks with the softest, cosiest knits and slippers.

Dr Martens First & Forever campaign

12 Sep

I adore the Dr Marten’s ‘First and Forever’ campaign which invites people to share their first experience of Doc Martins. The video, featuring Agyness Deyn, is really beautiful and is based around Agy’s first heartbreak.

Like most, I experienced my first pair at school, I can’t remember how old I was but I was probably about nine-ish. It was the 90s and they were all the rage. Though most of my peers went for the straight-laced and sensible shoe option, the punk/grudge trend of the time must have filtered through to me as I went for the boot version which I only laced up to the ankle with frayed laces and left the top part open. I loved those boots and in school, out of school and wherever I could. I can’t remember now, but I’m sure growing out of them was a hugely traumatic experience and probably resulted in a tantrum.
Fast-forward about 20 years and DMs are as popular as they were when I was a kid, proof of the 20 year fashion rule! Today, there is such a huge choice of colours and details, Schuh has some fabulous exclusive, limited editions too.  I’ve been really tempted to get another pair but just overwhelmed by the choice. Do you remember Dr Martens from ‘the first time around’ and have you bought another pair?

Schuh sandal discount!

26 Aug

To celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend, super shoe retailer Schuh have got a fabulous 15% discount on sandals, including sale items! All you need to do is enter Sandals15 at the checkout, hurry though the offer ends at midnight tomorrow. I know the weather has been pretty touch and go but a girl can never have too many sandals, if only for making the most of the brief moments of sunshine! Here are my favourite sandals from Schuh.

Schuh flow gladiator sandals
You really can’t beat a pair of gladiator sandals. I really like the criss cross staps on these, it adds a bit of character and the zip at the back makes them a doddle to get on and off. They were originally £45 but have been redeuced to £14.99…plus you get an extra 15% of.

Red or Dead Freya Sandals
These sandals are more like cut out shoes, they look really distinctive and would look great with a flowery tea dress or dressed down with shorts and a graphic tee. They’re £50.

What a cheery pair of yellow sandals! These quirky shoes have a real vintage vibe and, being Hush Puppies, they are going to be mega comfy so you can hop, skip and jump around all day. Or just walk! These are another sale steal pair, they were originally £52 but have been reduced to £34.99.

If flip flops are a little too plain but gladiator sandals aren’t pretty enough, these gold sandals will be perfect for you. The thin straps give them a dainty look while the gold colour gives them a bit of a luxe feel. These sandals are also in the sale, they were originally £39.99 and have gone down to £24.99.

Mellow Yellow at Sarenza

4 Jun
I literally cannot wait to get my paws into these chunky heels! Being a Sarenza brand ambassador is pretty sweet and these are my latest purchase from the site – gorgeous, non? My previous pair were a little crazy so I thought I’d go for something a little different – nude, chucky heel, simple but they both have a killer heel and platform. Although the heel is pretty high, the big platform and padded sole makes them very comfortable. The colour is great for summer too, perfect for neutrals and also grounding outfits with bright colours too.

They are by a brand Parisian brand that I’ve never heard of – Mellow Yellow. The great thing about Sarenza is they have over 300 different shoe brands, they’re basically the ASOS of shoes. I’m so tempted to wear these out, but I’m not sure my knee is up to dealing with 6-inch heels just yet. I’ll settle for wearing them indoors, for now….

Perspex and snakeskin shoe dreams…

31 May

Seriously, how lust-worthy are these heels?? A simple court shoe updated, the perspex platform gives it a bit of attitude and contrasts with the classic shape of the shoe. They sort of remind me of a Charlotte Olympia pair I saw a while ago, but with a Topshop price tag. Does that mean it’s ok to buy all three colours?
