Oasis Christmas sale picks

24 Dec
I remember a time when the pre-Christmas sales were actually the Boxing Day sales and Harrods even waited until January to start. For me, pre-Christmas sales are a little wrong so I don’t really partake and I still get up at the crack of dawn on Boxing Day, but now I tend to check out the sales online so I have a rough idea of what I’m going for. Oasis pieces are such great quality and the cut works for me so I tend to go for staple pieces like leather jackets, little black dresses and classic shapes but I also can’t resist trend pieces like bright lace, art deco embellishment and sherbet shades,

Clockwise from top left:
Boucle jumper – was £60, now £30.
Embellished scallop detail top – was £45 now £20.
Lace skater dress – was £32, now £20.
Pleated asymmetric panel dress – was £150, now £85.
Leather biker jacket – was £165, now £100.
60s dolly coat – was £65, now £45.
Embellished collar top – was £45, now £30.
Rosette one shoulder dress – was £65, now £40.
Bead fringe choker – was £24, now £12.
Metallic skater skirt – was £35, now £25.

When I think of young vintage-inspired brand Motel Rocks, I think of sweet, pretty girly pieces and gorgeously quirky prints. My top picks from their sale feature the cutest pieces and their most distinctive prints. My favourite would have to be the first dress, the print is a colourful version of a recent Prada print but the shape is young and fun.

Surviving the Boxing Day Sales

26 Dec

It’s Boxing Day morning and the house is as quiet as a mouse. You can’t hear a peep….except…for me sneaking out the door at an ungodly hour. Yep, it’s sales time. Boxing Day sales are one of my most favourite rituals and I’ve been going to the sales for about 7 years now. There are two rules I swear by: be organised and shop smart.

Being organised

Know where you’re going and how you’re gonna get there – Check trains/tubes are running!
If you’re outside of London, double check what time the shopping centre opens
It pays to arrive early, most people can’t be bothered!
Comfy flat shoes and comfy clothes are a must

Shop smart

It’s so easy to buy current trend pieces which you will only wear for a couple of months. I prefer to shop next season’s trends now, and very occasionally I shop for classic items. The trends I’m going to be keeping an eye out for are:

* Neutral colours – Peaches, ice blues, dove greys, creams
* Texture – Lace, chiffon, very light fabrics and Grecian draping
* Shoulders – One shoulder or strapless dresses or jumpsuits. Though I think I might steer clear of dresses, my wardrobe is overflowing!
* Shrinking hemlines – short shorts, shorter skirts and the shortest dresses
* Embellishment – Sequins, beading, studding, anything. Extra points for anything with military or tribal influences

Mid-season sales…already?!

21 Mar

I’ve taken to mooching in town instead of living the life of a recluse, after spending an entire week without leaving the house I thought I better rejoin the human race!! Anyway, my mooching and window shopping was interrupted by the obligatory bright red sale signs, declaring that it was time for mid-season sales. Is it just me, or are the mid-season sales ridiculously early?! I mean the Christmas sales draaaagged on til the February, and barely a month on the sales have started again!

Retailers are no doubt having a hard time, trying to succumb people to part with their hard-earned cash, as they keep an eye on profits and their bottom line. I’m not buying this strategy, it didn’t make much of a difference last year and it won’t this year! More long-term thinking is needed, rather than a constant sales culture that they are breeding. It just devalues their non-sale offer! Oh and while I’m lamenting the state of the retail industry, can someone please give me either a job or money so I can take advantage of the current situation?! Well, someone’s gotta help support the economy 😉

Most high street retailers already have their sales on, except H&M, Topshop and New Look. Here are my top picks from Oasis & Warehouse (good quality = good investment!) if you’re feeling particularly patriotic and want to do your bit to help our retailers! Oh and Miss Selfridge has some awesome pieces on sale, particularly denim.
