Alexander Wang Fall 2010

19 Feb
Who caught the show, streamed live via ShowStudio?? I missed it but found this clip online. The collection was very dark and moody, but I kind of like that for Winter. I love the injections of velvet, tailcoats and cutaway trousers.

Rodarte Fall 2010

18 Feb
Rodarte’s pretty and delecate Fall 2010 collection showed a huge evolution from their tough warrior collection shown in September. It still retained what is fast becoming a Rodarte signature – embroidered ethereal beauty, cobweb knits and sumptuous delicacy – but with a much softer aesthetic. The patchwork collection was inspired by the idea of sleepwalking, and consisted of vintage lace and floral chiffons twisted and draped, crochet and velvet, layers and trailing fabrics. Absolutely beautiful.

Peter Jensen Fall 2010

17 Feb
Peter Jensen should show in London, his whimsical, school uniform inspired collection it just so English! It was all tartans and pretty shoes with ankle socks. The fabrics looked very luxe too, silks and velvets. Perfect for Winter.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010

16 Feb

Over the past few seasons, Marc Jacobs has been very celebrity friendly to say the least. Movie stars on the front row and Spice Girls in campaigns has been the norm. But 2010 is a departure from the celebrity-friendly ways of seasons past. No singers, movie stars or celebrities were to be on the front row…even Andre Leon Talley was left standing! That wasn’t the only surprise, the set was completely stripped bare, the show started with Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy tearing back some brown paper to reveal the models clad mostly in pretty pastels, unusual for a Fall show. Stunning collection, I wasn’t overly keen on some of the skirt lengths and oversize jumpers and jackets but there were some absolutely stunning looks.

NYFW – Wed 10th

11 Sep

With all this free time, I’ve been thinking a lot and coming up with loads of random conclusions. Like the effect of the Internet on fashion. We’re free to seek what we like, be it fashion week images or random vintage stores. I’m choosing the fashion week images that I want and I like, rather than what’s going to get dictated to me via magazines. Saying that though, magazines still have their place, this month’s Harper’s is particularly amazing, it’s an all black issue of a different kind, paying homage to the dark, Gothic mood that has fallen over fashion this Fall. Ok, so these conclusions aren’t particularly deep, Jeremy Kyle, Laguna Beach and The Hills are as intellectual as my days get I’m afraid! But hey, at least I get to pour over fashion week images at my leisure 🙂 And here are my picks for today….
