Mulberry Spring/Summer 2011 campaign

16 Jan

Here it is, as promised all the campaign shots from Mulberry. Tim Walker shot model du jour Lindsey Wixson alongside Nimue Smit in a gorgeous quintessentially English shoot. They were styled with flame haired wigs in keeping with the SS11 show in a country house or stately home filled to the brim with pastel blooms.

London Fashion Week – Mulberry Spring/Summer 2011

22 Sep

Mulberry is also one British label which always causes a buzz during LFW. I heard the set was beautiful and had to check out the image and videos. The show was in Claridges which set the tone for a very English affair. The show was inspired by the English countryside and gardens, think The Secret Garden. The room was dressed like a country garden, complete with huge faux flowers and bunnies. There were even a couple of real life dogs on the catwalk, I heard that Mulberry made Brix Smith-Start’s dogs outfits so they could walk the catwalk…or should that be dogwalk?!

The collection was beautiful, I want to throw away all of my clothes and dress in Mulberry. They also carried camel, biscuity tones through from autumn/winter to spring/summer. Like Burberry, Mulberry also mixed these with bright blues and pretty pinks. The prints were very striking, florals and animal print which had a more marbled effect rather than all over. There were some midi-length dresses which made me sit up and take note of how chic that in-between length can look, rather than dowdy. There were so many little details such as the super shiny gold buttons and little ruffles that caught my eye. Oh and let’s not forget the bags. The Alexa and Bayswater featured heavily in biscuit, beige and camel shades.

As a little aside, I’m also digging the fringe and will be taking pictures along to the hairdressers. It’s exactly as I had pictured it in my mind but I had yet to find a decent visual. Love the colour too.

Mulberry x Target collaboration

21 Aug

I love Mulberry, I have a new obsession every season. Last season it was the Alexa, now I’m lusting after the gorgeous Neely. In my head, I own half a dozen Mulberrys but in reality the price points are a little high for me. That’s why I’ve been looking out for a collaboration for ages. I still regret not hunting down the red jersey Bayswater they designed for a collaboration with Gap. Target have lined up the highly covetable British label for their next collaboration, which is out in stores in October. There will be eight styles inspired by the main line but no replicas. The best part? They will be at Target prices, roughly under $100. Yesterday, Gilt.com had a 36-hour exclusive online preview which sold out immediately, literally 2 minutes after it opened all 5 styles they had were sold out. Sure to be a sell out in stores too.

Designer look-a-like – Mulberry Alexa

7 Jul

When I was shopping in Oasis yesterday, I had to double take when I spotted this gorgeous inky blue sachel, which is a dead ringer for the Mulberry Alexa. I know high-street copies are very popular, who can forget the hordes of padlocked Chloe Paddingtons look-a-likes which flooded the high-street years ago?! But I don’t think I could ever buy one. To me, they’re almost as bad as designer rip-offs that you find on holiday. They might look like the real thing, but the bottom line is it’s not. It’s a cheap imitation. If I had a Mulberry Alexa, I would treasure it and probably stroke it a lot. If I had a copy, I would probably look at it and think ‘you’re cute, pretty close to the real thing but..you’re not’. This isn’t to say that buying a look-a-like bag is wrong, the industry expects the high-street to copy clothes and accessories, it’s just a personal choice. Would you buy a look-a-like bag?
