The campaign trail: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Chanel AW11

4 Jul
Dakota’s little sister Elle Fanning is the new face of Marc by Marc Jacobs and I adore the first preview of the shoot with Juergen Teller. The image is gorgeous, Elle looks a little like Jessica Stam and the overall look of the image is lovely. I was fairly critical of Miu Miu’s decision to use Hailee Steinfeld as the face of their new campaign and although they’re similar ages, I think this campaign is more appropriate. Marc by Marc has much lower price points and has a much younger feel than Miu Miu.

Here are images from Miu Miu’s campaign, featuring the young Hailee Steinfeld. As reported in an earlier post, the decision has been a little controversial. The final images show the 14-year old looking mature and older than her years. I’m not sure why but this campaign doesn’t sit well with me. Perhaps it’s the polished, elegant collection and structured handbags, it almost looks like Hailee is playing dress up. What do you think?

I’ve already posted the teaser preview images for the Chanel Autumn/Winter 2011 campaign, featuring Freja Beha styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Karl Lagerfeld, and here are the first of the final images to be released. A very different direction for Chanel, though I think the teaser images show much more promise than these two images deliver. Eagerly awaiting the rest.

Hailee Steinfeld announced as the new face of Miu Miu

20 May

This week, Miu Miu announced that the impossibly stylish Hailee Steinfeld will be their new campaign model for next season. This is hardly surprising as the 14 year old star has been seen rocking a lot of Miu Miu and rumours that she is collaborating with the brand started circulating when she was seen FROW at fashion week. I’m not sure how I feel about the news, she does look fantastic and girls do start modelling from her age but it also feels a little wrong. The first outfit is a bit more fun but I think the second and third are a bit too grown up and polished for a 14 year old. I’m an advocate of kids being kids and having a childhood, children these days are under a fair bit of pressure to grow up too quickly, and I think that seeing their peer dressed in strappy heels and sheer blouses might affect impressionable young teenagers. The (potential) overreacting aside, the appointment could potentially serve to alienate some of Miu Miu’s audience who are more used to the likes of Katie Holmes, Vanessa Paradis and Kirsten Dunst fronting the brand’s campaigns. What do you think?

A little Miu Miu for you

29 Jun
Yeah, I have nothing better to do on an Sunday than think about fashion inbetween litter training Bob Snufflekins. I know S/S looks are so over and everyone’s looking forward to Fall, but I decided to pay homage to one of my favourite looks of this season, Miu Miu’s double skirt look.

My take on it isn’t quite as dramatic, and is coupled with Prada’s Fall 07 footless socks. Can you tell that I love Miuccia?!

Miu Miu Paradis

I must admit, I wasn’t a big fan of Kirsten Dunst’s Miu Miu adverts. I’m not a fan of Dunst at the best of times, and I felt the mood was a bit dark and serious for Miu Miu. I was excited to hear that Vanessa Paradis had been chosen, not only is she gorgeous and the owner of a legitimate career…she’s the long-term love of Johnny Depp…who I love. The ads were short by Mert & Marcus and are described as ‘yet another interpretation of the Miu Miu woman’.
