QVC SS12 press day

23 Nov
We all know that QVC does fabulous twinkling jewellery and the creme de la creme of cosmetics, I’ve blogged about their collaborations with gemologists and jewellery designers before and we’ve all had a sneaky peek at the Elemis or Decleor demostrations on their channel. They are so much more than a place to pick up distinctive jewels and pore perfecting potions though. When I popped down to Oui Rooms for their SS12 press day, I discovered just how diverse QVC are – practically a one stop shop for everything. Here are my favourite bits and pieces from their many collections.

Lulu Guinness – I have a major style crush on Lulu’s quirky, playful designs. The travel collection really appealed to me as I’m off on holiday soon, but I also love the doll face collection too.

Jewels – The Butler & Wilson shiny, shiny jewels really caught my eye. Can you blame me? The snake and dragon pieces really reminded me of Chopard’s animal collection which I saw at Selfridges’ Wonder Rooms over summer…but for a fraction of the price.

Interiors – The interiors section was essentially my dream decor realised. Fluffy and soft to the touch in pastel shades and ruffles and beading details, it was the perfect girly wonderland. As impressive as the cooking implements are, it’s probably safer for me to find a Moroccan restaurant rather than attempting and failing in the kitchen.

Beauty – I saved the best for last. QVC literally have all beauty bases covered whether you’re after haircare from the likes of Percy & Reed and Frederic Fekkai, skincare from Elemis and Perricone MD, nail polish from OPI and Leighton Denny or make up from Jemma Kidd or Benefit. They have pretty much every premium brand under one roof.

Lulu Guiness SS12 press day

25 Oct

Lulu Guinness is always a little breath of fresh air during the relentless, seemingly never ending press day schedule. I always walk into the venue a little late and a lot stressed but walk out refreshed with a smile on my face. It’s hard not to walk away from the Queen on Quirk feeling lighthearted, her super fun designs are so infectious. Lulu was inspired by holidays for her spring/summer 2012 collection; evident by the cool neutral colour palette, sunglass details, quirky prints and camera-inspired designs. I’ve fallen for the updated Doll Face bags, she is looking effortlessly chic in her sunnies! The lips clutches are still on my lust list too, the nude pastel shades look so fresh while the snakeskin version are just such a statement.

The autumn/winter 2011 and cruise collections are available to buy now on the Lulu Guinness site.

Friday Fashion Fix

Bottega Veneta to launch first fragrance.

I’m excited to share the news that Bottega Veneta are set to launch their first ever fragrance in September! Super luxe fashion houses always create incredibly beautiful, intoxicating fragrances so I’m really looking forward to smelling Tomas Maier’s fragrance. The short film below gives a little insight into what we can expect. It features Nine d’Urso, daughter of Ines de la Fressange, who is the face of the fragrance. “I chose Nine to introduce this fragrance because there is something classically elegant about her, yet she is totally modern. She conveys a sense of heritage worn lightly but with respect”, said Tomas Maier, Creative Director, Bottega Veneta.

Lulu Guinness is expanding her handbag empire to luggage collection.

This is going to sound a little silly as there are so many luggage brands but I think Lulu has something special. Most luggage collections are practical brown or black which is all well and good, but I prefer looking out for something a little more distinctive on the baggage carousel, something with a bit more personality. There are of course the girly bright pink or purple cases – I’ve had a purple one in the past – but I’m talking sleek, sophisticated, grown up luggage. This is where there’s a gap in the market and precisely where Lulu’s luggage will fit in. The ‘sealed with a kiss’ collection features Lulu’s iconic lips design with seriously impressive luggage spec – 360 spinnerwheels amd TSA locks along with soft grip carry handles, high shine buttons, striped lining and internal packing sections. I think I need them all in my life!

Woolmark are proving fashion had feeling.

Woolmark’s new campaign aims to bring out the feelings and emotions behind our daily fashion choices. Named Fashion by Feelings, the site is an interactive lookbook site which allows you to upload an outfit into one of twelve categories, depending on how you feel, readers can then vote on their favourite. Being Woolmark, the theme is wool and all outfits must incorporate wool in some way. Very timely as it’s a bit nippy out and the autumn/winter collections are starting to trickle into stores. If you need an added incentive, the winning look will win an amazing $12,000 trip to Australia!

Style Compare brings all of your fashion favourites together.

This year, I’ve noticed a growing trend for fashion aggregators – websites which basically bring together lots of retailers into one handy place. I’ve spent a lot of time on Style Compare this week and I think they’re one of the best. They have over 1,500 labels on the site from retailers including ASOS, Topshop, All Saints, House of Fraser, Net-a-Porter, so instead of hopping from site to site looking for the perfect dress or shoes, you can check everything out from one place. What makes them different from similar fashion aggregators is that they are really passionate about independent designers and ethically sourced products; nurturing new talent to give them a platform to showcase their wares.

Lulu Guinness AW11 press day

4 Apr
Gosh, last week was a manic blur of press days! I felt like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, albeit with 4″ heels on my feet and a Starbucks in my hand! The Lulu Guinness press day felt like an oasis of calm in the midst of very turbulent times. Held at the plush Saville Club, the venue really set the tone for a luxe collection full to the brim of gorgeous little details to fawn over.

The bag shape of the season was the gorgeous bow bags, below. The stud one is the hero bag of the season, the little studs are a lovely touch to toughen up the pretty bow. I also liked the rose print version.

The Lulu Guinness boutique bags and doll face bags were also updated for the season. I love the doll face ones, she is just so adorable and chic at the same time. Next season, she has a little Parisian twist with the cropped red hair and kohl eyes.

I adore the iconic lips clutches. I want one. Or two. Or maybe one for every day of the week?? The Swarovski crystal pink lips are my favourite this time around, though I was pretty taken with the black stud version too. Perfect for those days you want to stomp around in all black with some killer heels on.

The bags below were a new addition this season, I loved the lips shape quilted leather detail, how adorable? My laptop is literally crying out for the larger bag so be it’s new home.

Another iconic Lulu Guinness favourite are the fan bags, like the lips clutches they are also a red carpet favourite…and for good reason. My favourite is the one below with the gorgeous sweetie tin jewels, my inner magpie honed in on it straight away.
