Lady Gaga wears Maria Francesca Pepe

20 May
I’m just going to put this out there: I’m not a huge Gaga fan. The only reason I might pay her a little bit of attention from time to time is for her sartorial choices. As attention-seeking as she may be, she does push the boundaries and stretch what is considered acceptable dressing in public. At a time where celebrities usually play it straight and predictable, she’s like a jolt electricity.  With a penchant for the avant garde, her fearless dress sense has the likes of Gaultier, McQueen and Mugler lining up to dress her so I was pleasantly surprised to see her wearing something by the less well known Maria Francesca Pepe. With the sort of star power Gaga has, it’s great that she’s supporting lesser known designers.

Here are some images from the Autumn/Winter 2011 press day. I loved the collection for it’s jagged, hard pieces. I’m looking forward to seeing Gaga rocking more MFP.

Lady Gaga for Harper’s Bazaar May 2011

17 Apr

When I first saw the cover for the May issue of US Harper’s Bazaar featuring Gaga shot by Terry Richardson, I was very underwhelmed, firstly because she is so overexposed and secondly because it was just ok. I was a bit surprised that Harpers had jumped on the Gaga bandwagon too. The cheek and shoulder prosthetics don’t really do it for me but I love, love the Versace dress. The image without all of the copy is a lot better. Thankfully, the editorial is a bit more promising. I love the McQueen mask and dress image and also the black Tex Saverio gown and the black Mugler outfit. To me, the piano and boob shots are gimmicky, shock images and I think Harpers shouldn’t have gone down such a predictable path. If fashion magazines are going to continue using Gaga, I’d like something more subtle, to see her stripped back.

Gaga + Vanity Fair = captivating

8 Aug

Ok, let me get this off my chest straight away. I’m not the biggest Lady Gaga fan. I respect how far she has come in such a short space of time, and love how she pushes the boundaries of fashion but other than that I’m not overly bothered by her or her antics. Even so, I couldn’t escape the huge buzz about her Vanity Fair cover for the September issue. Fully expecting some outlandish clothes and props, I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a simple, understated cover.

Here’s the behind the scenes video, which is amazing! Better than the cover shot, in my opinion. Gaga is just beautifully captivating and the styling is out of this world, it’s such a pity she ended up being naked with a grey wig on. I only say that because there could have been a really gorgeous, ethereal shot as the cover. But I do like the understated shot they chose. It strips away the mental-ness normally associated with her.
