Givenchy autumn/winter 2011 campaign

19 Jul

How ferocious is Givenchy’s Autumn/Winter 2011 campaign? Sensual and seductive, the campaign was shot by Mer Alas and Marcus Piggott and featured a sterling cast – Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova, Kristen McMenamy and of course a Tisci’s favourite Mariacarla Boscono. The preview image is a singular Naomi shot but it looks so, so promising. Check out the accompanying video for some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks.

Givenchy Couture Autumn/Winter 2011

9 Jul

I’ve been a little ill, hence the lack of posts. Don’t worry though there’s nothing like a little couture to cure what ails me. And couture doesn’t get any better than Riccardo Tisci’s sublime work at Givenchy. I do believe he has managed to top his sensational Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The TFS forums show split opinion, some like me adore the collection and some see this as a regurgitation of last season’s couture collection. I see this collection as a lot softer, more delicate and more beautiful than Tisci’s past collection.

Who wore what – amfAR Cannes Gala 2011

23 May

I know that, on the whole, I’ve pretty much ignored Cannes. It was a little relentless, like it’s own mini Fashion Week so I’ve decided to cover the best event with dresses which, in my option, far surpassed the splendour we saw on the red carpet during awards season. Whites, neutrals and gold were very popular, as were Cavalli, Atelier Versace and Chanel. Givenchy was the designer du jour though with no less than 5 Givenchy gowns spotted. The dress of the night was worn by Giovanna Battaglia in vintage Stephen Sprouse. A bold choice, but she looks out of this world! Who’s your favourite?

Rosario Dawson in Roberto Cavalli

Bar Rafaeli in Roberto Cavalli and Karl Lagerfeld

Ana Beatriz Barros in Roberto Cavalli

Georgina Chapman in Marchesa

Brooke Shields in Marchesa

Milla Jovovich in Atelier Versace

Irina Shayk in Atelier Versace

Gwen Stefani in custom LAMB, Dasha Zhukova in Givenchy

Kristen McMenamy, Riccardo Tisci, Courtney Love in Givenchy couture

Kanye West in Givenchy and Carine Roitfeld in Givenchy couture

Kirsten Dunst in Chanel couture

Doutzen Kroes in Balenciaga

Alessandra Ambrosio in Roberto Cavalli

Anja Rubik in Emilio Pucci

Givenchy Couture Spring/Summer 2011

28 Jan

Sometimes people wonder what the point of couture is. Normally I refer them to Dior’s breathtaking dresses and tell them that in comparison, ‘normal’ fashion looks mediocre. For me, couture is about creating something exquisitely beautiful, intricate works of art on fabric. If anyone asked me now, I’d refer them to the Givenchy SS11 collection, Riccardo Tisci’s collection was much less gothic and dark than previous collections, the collection was almost romantic but with a harder edge. He incorporated elements inspired by robots and dancer Kazu Ohno with soft sheer organza and chiffon, ostrich feathers and hours upon hours of intricate embroidery work. The backs of the dresses were stunning. This is my favourite couture collection by far.

Spring/Summer 2011 campaigns part I

30 Dec

With all of the shops clearing out all of the old AW10 stock and moving in transitional pieces already, it seems like a good time to look forward to the gorgeous campaigns which will grace our magazines in the coming months. The campaigns are very different, don’t you think? Givenchy is my favourite, the image is so striking and powerful. What’s your favourite?

Givenchy Spring/Summer 2011

I love Riccardo Tisci and I love Givenchy. I love that ferocious, gothic Givenchy has embraced a slightly softer side as wisps of sheer fabrics wafted in the models’ wake as the glided down the catwalk. Tisci’s collection has been infused with leopard-print, either touches of leopard print to his tailored pieces or entire leopard print dresses towards the end of the show. Normally, this print seems to scream luxury and wealth, but in this collection it looks a lot more subtle and cooler than it ever has, leopard print is suddenly made very modern. I love the contrast between monochrome and leopard print, of sharp tailored pieces and ethereal, sheer draping.

Model Spotlight:Joan Smalls

18 Jul

I first spotted Joan when I poured over images of the Givenchy Couture presentation. There’s something about her, she’s definitely one to watch! Joan has been modelling for a little while, she was signed to Elite back in 2007, but got her big break after leaving Elite and signing with IMG late last year. A few months later, she walked the Givenchy couture show as an exclusive. She then went to walk in the Anna Sui, Gucci, Burberry, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino Autumn/Winter shows. Since then, she’s been shot by the likes of Meisel and Demarchelier and become one of the faces of Gucci. She seems like a favourite of Givenchy, as well as being in two couture shows, she is also in the Autumn/Winter campaign shot by Mert and Marcus.
