Bottega Veneta to launch first fragrance.

I’m excited to share the news that Bottega Veneta are set to launch their first ever fragrance in September! Super luxe fashion houses always create incredibly beautiful, intoxicating fragrances so I’m really looking forward to smelling Tomas Maier’s fragrance. The short film below gives a little insight into what we can expect. It features Nine d’Urso, daughter of Ines de la Fressange, who is the face of the fragrance. “I chose Nine to introduce this fragrance because there is something classically elegant about her, yet she is totally modern. She conveys a sense of heritage worn lightly but with respect”, said Tomas Maier, Creative Director, Bottega Veneta.

Lulu Guinness is expanding her handbag empire to luggage collection.

This is going to sound a little silly as there are so many luggage brands but I think Lulu has something special. Most luggage collections are practical brown or black which is all well and good, but I prefer looking out for something a little more distinctive on the baggage carousel, something with a bit more personality. There are of course the girly bright pink or purple cases – I’ve had a purple one in the past – but I’m talking sleek, sophisticated, grown up luggage. This is where there’s a gap in the market and precisely where Lulu’s luggage will fit in. The ‘sealed with a kiss’ collection features Lulu’s iconic lips design with seriously impressive luggage spec – 360 spinnerwheels amd TSA locks along with soft grip carry handles, high shine buttons, striped lining and internal packing sections. I think I need them all in my life!

Woolmark are proving fashion had feeling.

Woolmark’s new campaign aims to bring out the feelings and emotions behind our daily fashion choices. Named Fashion by Feelings, the site is an interactive lookbook site which allows you to upload an outfit into one of twelve categories, depending on how you feel, readers can then vote on their favourite. Being Woolmark, the theme is wool and all outfits must incorporate wool in some way. Very timely as it’s a bit nippy out and the autumn/winter collections are starting to trickle into stores. If you need an added incentive, the winning look will win an amazing $12,000 trip to Australia!

Style Compare brings all of your fashion favourites together.

This year, I’ve noticed a growing trend for fashion aggregators – websites which basically bring together lots of retailers into one handy place. I’ve spent a lot of time on Style Compare this week and I think they’re one of the best. They have over 1,500 labels on the site from retailers including ASOS, Topshop, All Saints, House of Fraser, Net-a-Porter, so instead of hopping from site to site looking for the perfect dress or shoes, you can check everything out from one place. What makes them different from similar fashion aggregators is that they are really passionate about independent designers and ethically sourced products; nurturing new talent to give them a platform to showcase their wares.

Mass exodus at Halston

Halston has been hitting the headlines on a nearly daily basis with big shock departures. Creative director Marios Schwab and board member Tamara Mellon are both out, alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Harvey Weinstein. Times, they are a-changing. Watch this space for more news.

Anja Rubik gets married!

Onto happier news, last weekend supermodel Anja Rubik married her model boyfriend in an intimate ceremony in Mallorca. Her dress was designed by Peter Dundas of Pucci. It was a very contemporary design, with a shorter front, the back was a more traditional longer longer back and train. It’s not to everyone’s taste though. What do you think?

Dylan Lauren’s stunning wedding dress.

I’m sorry but the two Kates (Moss and The Duchess) cannot compete with Dylan Lauren’s fairytale wedding dress, which was designed by her father Ralph Lauren. The dress is handmade duchesse-satin and silk tulle with a tiered nine-foot train. For me, this is the ultimate wedding dress, it’s beautifully fitted and shows off her figure but also has the wow factor without straying into meringue territory. Perfection.

Carine Roitfeld’s styling V, inspired by Elizabeth Taylor.

There is no stopping Carine Roitfeld. She already has two campaigns under her freelancing belt and she’s set to make her return to styling magazine editorials in V’s September issue. The ‘Heroes Issue’ features a 72-page story on Elizabeth Taylor and was shot by Mario Testino. Cannot wait to see this when it’s out.

Who’s that girl?

Read and then re-read this sentance: It’s Katie Holmes. Yes Joey from Dawson’s Creek. Yes, Mrs Tom Cruise. Yes, Suri’s mother. What a transformation, bravo Vogue Spain. Looking forward to seeing more from this 9-page editorial which features beaucoup de Louis Vuitton.

Karl Lagerfeld for…Macys!

Karl Lagerfeld’s super affordable range for Macys is the most exciting news since, well, his sell out range for H&M. Macys have released these sketches which show a couple of pieces from the range which launches on August 31st. Check back over the weekend for images of the actual range. And don’t forget to mark the date in your calendar!

Fashion Fix

27 Mar

A while ago, I used to do a weekly post called Fashion Fix which kind of rounded up all the fashion news into one post. I’m feeling a little nostalgic so I thought I would bring it back 🙂

Revillon and Rodarte?

There have been lots of whisperings that Rodarte would be bought by LVMH group as CEO Pierre-Yves Roussel has been front row for the past two seasons.  Now, there are rumours that someone else may have already snapped them up. Apparently the Mulleavy sisters are in talks with French furrier Revillon. According to the rumours, their first collection will be shown in July alongside Paris couture. Rodarte’s rep denies the rumours, but watch this space.  I’m not sure how I feel about this to be honest, I just feel that fur is a little unnecessary these days. It would definitely be a very controversial move for them.

In other Rodarte news, they are collaborating with director Darren Aronofsky on his new film Black Swan, which stars Natalie Portman.

Theory and Proenza?

There must be something in the air, the lads from Proenza Schouler have apparently met with Andrew Rosen, CEO of Theory, who may be interested in a stake of the American label. Theory already invests in the likes of Rag and Bone and Alice + Olivia.

Tom Ford womenswear steams ahead

This is the most exciting news of all. Tom Ford is on a recruiting spree for his womenswear design team. Here’s a roll call of who has been hired: Caroline Tixier (Givenchy), Pablo Coppola (McQueen) and Michael Lewis (Gucci,  Louis Vuitton and Burberry). Ford is reported to return to womenswear for Autumn 2011, probably with a presentation rather than a show either set in New York or Milian. I cannot wait to see what the creative outcome is, but I’m sure it will completely blow me away.

Stella shrinks Gap

Stella McCartney’s first collection for Gap Kids sold out of large sizes within hours, so she’s cut everything slightly smaller this season. To be honest, I didn’t pay the last collection much mind, seeing as it was for kids. But I may try to squeeze myself into something as I’ve heard it’s amazing!
New Model/Designer

Irina Lazareanu is the latest model to jump on the model/designer bandwagon. I do like her style, but to be honest I’m sick of people (celebrities and models) deviating from the day job to dabble in design. Lindsey Lohal and Ungaro, I’m talking to you! Designers do such an amazing job I really feel this undermines their vision, creativity and talent.

Fendi and Chanel hit New York

Andre Leon Talley has confirmed reports that Karl Lagerfeld is shooting both Chanel and Fendi campaigns in New York. He was shooting Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee Kershaw in Chanel around SoHo and the Lower East Side during the week. If the stupid BA strike wasn’t on, I would be so tempted to jump on a flight to do some Karl-stalking!

OMG….Rodarte for Target!!

Wow! As beautifully covetable as Rodarte dresses are, they’re more works of art than commercial Target clothing fit for mere mortals. But apparently the deal is done, Rodarte for Target is hitting stores 20th December-6th February and prices will range from $9.99-$79.99. A Target spokesman had this to say: “What you’ll notice is an amazing eye for detail. It’s very feminine, yet very modern. The collection incorporates a rich mix of patterns and fabrications and everything from sequins and bows to faux fur. The key with Rodarte is layering.” *Note to self, book flights to America, ASAP!*

Sneak peak of the new issue of Love, courtesy of Vogue. As with the first issue, it looks as if this is from an editorial rather than the cover. Interesting nonetheless, the theme seems to be ‘New Blood: The Young & The Restless’. The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus are said to be in the issue.

Lanvin Fall 09 Campaign

Kristen McMenamy shot my Meisel. Striking, not least because of the cats!

Riccardo Tisci’s Greatest Hits

Tisci’s Redux collection, which was launched in June, was a capsule collection of his ‘greatest hits’. This is set to be a regular collection rather than a one off, with two collections a year. The first is going on sale in October, focusing in studs. Prices start at a mere $350…bargain!

Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List 2009

Michelle Obama, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Sheikha Mozah of Qatar, Penelope Cruz, Princess Lerizia of Asturias, Kelly Ripa, Kathy Freston, Agnes Gund, Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys, Chiara Clemente, Lizzie Tisch, Brad Pitt and Barak Obama make the top 15. Royalty, politicians, New Yorkers and a smattering of celebrities.

In brief:

Prada postponed: Prada has an extension until 2012 to pay back its $450m loan, relieving pressure to sell a stake in the iconic brand.

Wang online: Alexander Wang’s online store launched today, as he “love[s] the idea of shopping in bed.”

Copenhagen: Copenhagen Fashion Week has officially kicked off. My round up is coming soon!

The new Wang?

I really hate when journalists refer to someone as ‘the new…’ so-and-so. It’s lazy journalism and kinda insulting to the person they’re describing. Seeing as being a hypocrite is pretty much inevitable, I’m going to join in…hear me out though! Stylist turned designer? Check! Monochrome colours? Check! Unisex look? Check! Angular silhouette? Check! Rad by Rad Hourani, the secondary line for the namesake designer was unveiled. In stores in November, priced between $100-400. How much are u wanting a piece of this?!

Gucci Fall 09 campaign

Words fail me. The first image is just too hot to handle! Anja Rubik, Natasha Poly, Myf Shepherd and Raquel Zimmerman shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, styled by Emmanuelle Alt.

Lily Golightly?

Karl Lagerfeld’s muse for sometime, Lily Allen stars in the Chanel Fall 09 campaign, which has more than a touch of Breakfast at Tiffany’s about it. What do you think of Lily as a modern day Holly Golightly? Fashion Chalet, would love to hear your opinion!

Extracts from a Dasha Zhukova’s interview with er Interview magazine, about Pop magazine! Phew!

She’s not trying to ride in on Katie Grand’s coattails.

I respect Katie Grand, and I hope I can retain some respect for the brand. But I have other plans for the magazine now. And, come on, it’s not like this is the first time there’s been a new editor at a magazine.

Actually, she was opposed to taking the job at first.

My initial reaction was, “No way. I don’t want this.”

She acknowledges the doubts about her ability to edit POP . . .

Yes, there was a lot of doubt there. But here’s the thing: I’ve wanted to do a magazine for years. In fact, my friend Olympia Scarry and I had worked on a magazine concept before. We did up a dummy version, and even looked to get it printed. It was not like POP. We had only planned on a single issue a year, and the layout was different. But when this opportunity came along — an entire magazine ready to go and fully staffed, with an entire infrastructure — eventually I decided it would be stupid not to at least entertain the idea.

. . . And that she isn’t from the fashion world.

That’s another thing: I read fashion magazines, but I’m not all up in the mix. I’m not from this world. I haven’t spent years in fashion making friends and making enemies. I barely know who half the people are. Obviously, I know that Katie Grand started POP, and that it’s a product that’s so associated with her in this world. But in my world, it’s just POP.

But she finds those aspects advantageous.

Absolutely. It allows me to not delve too deep into the politics of it all. I like to think of myself as the average reader.

In brief:

Baby be gone: Gisele appears in the London Fog campaign sans baby bump, which has been airbrushed out.

Baby Boom: 18 year old Jourdan Dunn has also revealed that she is pregnant. Both Jourdan and Gisele are due in December.

Nouvelle Vogue: “Think a new circle of models, an influx of fresh, young photographers and a desire for ‘unpredictability’ in the stories.”

Lacroix saved?: After a few frankly pathetic offers, the front runner seems to be Borletti, who has stakes in Printemps.

Oh yes, now I’m back, it’s back too!

Stella does love the animals

Stella McCartney has possibly won the unofficial ‘who has the best campaign’ competition! I can’t help but smile whenever I see this combination of hot fashion and Disney deliciousness. Ryan McGinley shot Sigrid Agren in the woods and photoshopped in Bambi et al. Don’t you just love it?

Vogue Italia Black Issue: The Sequel

I’m sure you all remember the much talked about and debated all black issue of Vogue Italia last July. Well, it’s back, but with Barbie. Sequels for anything are bad at the best of times, but how do u top the hype and impact of last year’s Vogue Italia? The answer is…you can’t. But what you can do is team up with a famous doll brand who has a new range out. But hey, I’m talking about it so I guess they win!

W-W-Wow it’s Lara Stone!

Fashion’s obsession with Lara Stone isn’t waning. The model, who’s size varies between a US 2 and 6, counts Carine Roitfeld and Karl Lagerfeld fans. She graces the cover of W magazine’s August issue, shot by Steven Klein who calls her ‘The girl with the x-rated lips’. Picante!

It’s not all about Daria

You may remember the February issue of Vogue Paris, it was entirely devoted to one Lara Stone. There were rumours that the August issue would be a Daria Werbowy special, she is a much more deserving model in my opinion. But sadly, this isn’t true. Other models will feature in the solely Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot issue.

In Brief:

To the Tents – Erin Wasson will be showing her Spring 2010 collection in the tents…u go girl!

Outta the Tents – Erin, the face of Maybelline, seems to be bringing the high-street make up brand with her. MAC is out, Maybelline is in people.

Ossie to close – A year after relaunching, Ossie Clarke is closing again, due to ‘market conditions’.

To Paris!
On a side note, are any other bloggers off to Paris this Saturday?? I’m ridiculously excited, I’ve never been to Paris! Yes….deprived 😦

Fashion Fix..and Me!

18 May
Ok so it’s taken forever for me to move house (I have a lot of shoes..!) and get my internet sorted (multiple trips and conversations to clueless B&Q, Comet & PC World staff) and just as it was getting sorted, I went and fractured my elbow. Personally, I blame The Boy. Yes, the same The Boy from way back when. Safe to say its been a roller coaster few weeks, but now the dust has settled and I shall firstly impart (some) wisdom and (mostly) observations from my chaotic weeks:

* Iceskating is not fun and harmless, you could end up fracturing an elbow!!
* Cute doctors do exist. No, not cute, make that scorchingly hot doctors.
* Perhaps, just maybe, it might be time to give flats a while again
* I feel allergic to black again, bring on summer brights!
* In fact just bring on summer, I’m shivering as I type

* Rabbit also like eating Oreo cookies and party rings!

Ok enough of that, and onto some real stuff. My new job is going great, online marketing for one of the top retailers in the world, so not too shabby if I say so myself! New place is going well too, have run out of clothes/shoe room but have ordered more addition to the 2 wardrobes and 2 chests of drawers I’m currently using. So all in all, ticking along nicely despite a couple of huge blips. I have missed you all, and have missed blogging and tweeting tremendously so I’m probably going to over-blog to make up for it! And, no time like the present right?! So here’s a probably slightly random Fashion Fix, while I find my blogging feet again. But fear not, there will be more to come pretty much everyday this week, including pictures from the Chanel Fall 09 campaign!

V-ow Magazine editorial

I think it’s from a V Magazine editorial, with Kate, Natalia, Claudia and Daria. The images have stunned me…Kate kills it in the Margiela jacket.

V Man’s also got it goin on…

Ashley Olsen is an editorial for V Man, looking sultry and sexy and a brunette!
Agy stars in Uniqlo campaign

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about Agy, really not my most favourite model. The shots are alright, nothing more nothing less. Do any of you disagree?
Iman Ostracised.

“I did feel a bit ostracized. You suddenly represent a whole race, and that race goes, ‘Well, that person does not represent our ideals of beauty.’ For lack of a better term, it becomes what it was like during slavery. One had the field n— and the house n—. There was this notion that I was chosen by white fashion editors to be better than the rest, which I am not. I did not like being thought of as the house n— whether it was spoken or whether it was understood. It always left a bad taste in my mouth. I call it ‘the politics of beauty’ because fashion can sometimes be an assault on one’s identity.” Iman
In Brief:

Move over Sienna: Apparently Sienna’s status as Matthew Williamson’s muse is over, Leigh Lezark is the new muse on the block.

Fiction about ‘reality’: Lauren Conrad has a new book out. About a girl who moves to Hollywood for a reality show. Right…
