Primrose Hill vintage fashion fair

10 Apr

Make a note in your diaries vintage lovers, the next instalment of the Primrose Hill vintage fashion fair is taking place next Sunday. The lovely Marilyn has been holding vintage fairs in Primrose Hill for two years now and is a fountain of knowledge about all things vintage, having owned her own vintage shop in Battersea and organising vintage fairs in Earls Court in 2006. The next fair is being held next Sunday – 17th April- at Cecil sharp House in Primrose Hill. It’s a lovely excuse to get dressed up and there will be prizes for the most authentic, quirky or unusual vintage attire. At the 28 stands, there will be a huge selection of affordable vintage wares from a variety of decades as well as some really special designer pieces for the eagle-eyed visitors.

Vintage Fashion Fair London 17th April
Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regents Park Road, London NW1 7AY.

Happy birthday to…me!

7 Jan

As some of you may know, yesterday was my birthday. I’ve had quite a lot of personal stuff going on (as well as the burglary) over the last couple of weeks and was adamant I didn’t want to celebrate. One of the best things about good friends is they don’t let you pass milestones or deal with things by yourself. So I agreed to a quiet dinner at one of my favourite restaurants (you should all know that that’s Ping Pong by now!), all very low key and relaxed. Huge thanks to the person who looks after Ping Pong’s Twitter page who knew I was going for my birthday dinner and gave the staff a head’s up. I felt like an absolute princess yesterday evening!

I rummaged through my outfit for an old favourite, something that I knew would make me feel like a million dollars. I bought this Topshop Boutique dress quite a few years ago, I loved the ruching and cowl detail, fit and the gorgeous material. I didn’t want to wear opaque tights even though it’s a bit nippy as it would just create one block of black so I wore some tights that were a little more interesting but not so exciting that they’d take the attention away from the dress. Lastly, I chucked on some ASOS peep toe shoeboots, like the dress they’re an old favourite and worn in so well that they’re like slippers!

Westfield car boot fair!

8 Sep
Since Westfield has opened, it’s pretty much changed the notion of shopping centres in Britain. The likes of Brent Cross and Lakeside look like ancient relics of yesteryear. It’s not just that it’s shiny new, it’s the architecture, the layout, the selection of stores and the food court. One of my colleagues hates shopping centres with a passion, but has an insane love for Westfield. She even has a song about it, I kid thee not! What I admire is that it’s run like a fashion business business rather than just a pile bricks and mortar, they have a lookbook online and regular events.

Earlier in the week I found out that the latest event is a car boot fair, running from 21st-26th September! It’s extremely timely, quite a few bloggers have been having car boots and jumble sales recently – the most high profile being the one held by Susie Bubble and co a few weeks ago. The Westfield event is going to be a slightly more glamourous affair. The ‘sellers’ are stores such as Topshop, Oasis and House of Fraser and they’re not going to be flogging their wares from a clapped out Reliant Robin, they have shiny new Hyundais. I don’t want to whip you up into a frenzy, but according to the website there will be vintage Chanel, exclusive Wolfords, fashion shows, personal styling events and lots of deals to be had. Sounds exciting, will you be heading down?

Aussie Colour Mate party

25 Aug

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to the Aussie Colour Mate party, and was literally counting down the weeks, days and minutes til it kicked off. Wondering what the heck a Colour Mate party is? Well, all of my fellow Aussie angels have been split into hair tribes and as someone who frequently abuses their hair with all sorts of dyes and colourants, the Colour Mate tribe seemed like a natural fit for me. The guys at Aussie have arranged parties for all the tribes to meet up and learn how to look after our hair. We were asked to dress up as our hair colour idol, I had so many! I was tempted to go as Leigh Lezark from The Misshapes, Rihanna and Katy Perry. I decided (on the day) that Katy would be the most fun to dress up as, even if she cheats and wears wigs rather than dying her hair blue and purple.

Me as Katy Perry, Tor as the Gaga

We had oodles of coloured cocktails to carry on the colour theme and super stylists Amber and Zara showed us how to make the most of our locks without heat styling. We even had the most amazing Lady Gaga and Beyonce impersonators ever! We also had a little mini hair makeovers which are always fab. I had a plait which went over one shoulder and some loose curls. It was lovely to catch up with fellow bloggers Tor from Fab Frocks, Kristabel from I Want You To Know, Maria from Mediacation, Christina from A Sense Sublime and Lucy from Snippets of Shiny Thoughts

Jacques Townhouse

4 Aug

On Monday night I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Jacques Townhouse. I scurried along after work not really knowing what to expect. As soon as I stepped through the doors a felt a little like Alice must have done after she fell down the rabbit hole. It took my eyes a second or two to get used to this strange peculiarly wonderful land I found myself in. Slap bang in the middle of central London was this strange place, whitewashed walls and floors, beautiful ornaments around and bellboys to assist with pretty much anything!

Gorgeous cupcakes

The nocturnal soiree hosted by Jacques was the most girly fun I’ve had in a long time. Based on a quintessential English tea party with a twist: there’s a dress up room full of vintage goodies and stylists on hand, a powder room hosted by Benefit, a mini studio for some commemorative snaps, a lounging room, a bar and fortune tellers! That’s a lot to squeeze into the Grade I listed townhouse.

Now I had no idea why this pop-up girly soiree venue was here until I visited the bar…Jacques is a cider company! I’ve only ever had a sip of cider before branding it disgusting. But Jacques is really fruity and the red flavour is pretty delicious. Try and visit if you can, it’s such a unique night out and it’s only on til Friday sign up here

Elite Model Look Final 2010

31 Jul

Last Thursday I attended the Elite Model Look Final 2010, how exciting! Their model competition has discovered many a household name including Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Gisele Bundchen. On the night, the 12 lucky UK finalists competed to be crowned the UK winner of Elite Model Look and go onto the international competition. The 12 finalists were all stunningly beautiful, as you can expect but very young. The youngest girls were 14 and the oldest was 17.

I have to say, the event was a little disjointed as there were lots of videos and then a bit of presenting and then catwalk shows, with a few musical and dance performances thrown in. The girls did so well though and I did like the modern dance performance. I bumped into Marian and Carina too which is a bonus. Here’s a video of the highlights:
