Carolyn Massey SS11

11 Nov

I readily put my hands up and admit I don’t really get menswear. I’ve covered a few menswear shows in the past, Versace and Jil Sander I think but on the whole, I find it really hard to get excited about it. That was until last Saturday when I spied Aiden Grimshaw looking very dashing in a lovely crisp white shirt on the X-Factor. Upon further¬†investigation, and a helpful tweet from show stylist Grace Woodward, I discovered it was from menswear designer Carolyn Massey’s range for Topman. I had absolutely no idea Topman secured designer collaborations like sister brand Topshop. Her sell out collaborative ranges have earned her style fans including Elliott Sainsbury from Fashion156 to Steve Salter of Style Salvage.¬†

If the high-street collaboration was this good, I knew I had to check out her main line, it did not disappoint. She is a very well deserving winner of the BFC NEWGEN men’s award, not once but thrice! Her SS11 collection combines her minimalist take on menswear tailoring with surprising ribbon detailing. I love the pared down, basic colour scheme of beiges, mustant and dark blues.¬†
