BAFTAs Fashion 2009

9 Feb

And awards season rolls on…yesterday night was the BAFTAs which meant I could actually watch live! I loved Freida Pinto’s dress, she’s doing an outstanding job as a newcomer she hasn’t set a foot wrong so far. There were some outstanding dress though, see below. Following the Globes and SAG awards, necklaces seem to be firmly ‘out’, with most opting to keep it simple on the accessories front.

Kate Winslett in Zac Posen

Good to see Kate looking good, trust me this picture was taken at an unflattering angle! It’s similar to her SAG dress, but better. I’m kinda bored of seeing Kate in the same body-con-ish dresses though, yeah she’s got a great curvy figure but maybe try something different for the Oscars.

Penelope Cruz in Alaia

I think this is the best dress she’s ever worn, she looks amazing. Again, this was taken at a bit of an unflattering angle. Not a big fan of her hair like that, it would have looked so much prettier..done any other way!

Emma Watson in Temperley

Is it bad that I’m jealous of a mere child?? The girl doesn’t have a stylist..

Marisa Tomei in Etro

A very brave choice from Marissa, not sure if I love it or hate it to be honest, but it definitely stood out.

Freida Pinto in Oscar de la Renta

Absolutely loved this dress! As soon as I saw her in it, very interested to see what she wears on Oscar night.

Alesha Dixon in Giovanni

Too much, too too much. Yuck!

Thandie Newton in vintage

Loved this dress, the gold stops it from being another boring black dress.

Angelina Jolie in Armani Prive

Brave choice from Angelina, not her usual choice – either floaty and body skimming or showing off her curves. I think she pulled it off, but I’m not sure that the length suits, but then again I’m not normally a fan of the mid-calf dress.

Marion Cotillard in Dior

Gorgeous, the ruffle/pleat detail and the shimmery material stopped this from being boring. Looks totally fabulous on Marion.

Gemma Arteton in vintage Dior

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Gemma get it right on the red carpet. It would be good for another occasion but its the BAFTAs! I think something a bit younger would have looked better on her. See Emma Watson for clues!

Screen Actors Guild Fashion 2009

26 Jan

I know I’ve been gone but I couldn’t let the Screen Actor’s Guild awards pass without posting pictures 🙂 Fashion Fix will be back…along with some highlights from my recent nights out. I wore black on both nights out, and I never do black on nights out!

America Fererra in Vera Wang

Not normally a fan of America’s dresses. She always manages to get it wrong. But this is beautiful, really suits her figure but I don’t think the colour does anything for her. Love the wispy black though.

Emily Blunt in Pamela Roland

I think this is a love-it-or-hate-it dress and I love it! It looks gorgeous on Emily, the cut and colour are fabulous on her.

Eva Longoria in Jenny Packham

Not convinced that this was the right choice. The colour looks a lot better in the close up, but in the other pic she just looks orange. The frilled waist also makes lil Eva look huge from the hips down.

Anne Hathaway in Azzaro

Anne. Awards ceremony. Flawless. The usual!

Evan Rachel Wood in Monique Lhuillier

Evan is on point! She looks stunning.

Kate Winslett in Narciso Rodriguez

Not a fan, it looks like one dress from the knees up and a different dress from the knees down.

Kyra Sedgwick in Chanel

Absolutely gorgeous!

Freida Pinto in Marchesa

Love it, such a pretty colour on her. I love the long neck-tie thingy too, nice detail.

Angelina Jolie in Max Azria

I didn’t like it at first, I thought it was a shame to cover up such a gorgeous figure but she looks terribly chic.

Olivia Wilde in unknown

I wasn’t a fan of her Globes look but this is a marked improvement. I still think she could have chosen better.

January Jones in Andrew Gn

Gorgeous! Love the golden details, stops it from being boring.

Amy Adams in unknown

Love the ruffly detail and the colour. Very pretty.

Golden Globes 2009 Fashion

13 Jan

Here are my picks from the Golden Globes 2009! Not necessarily the best, some I don’t actually like. Let’s just call it the Most Noteworthy Dresses of the Golden Globes!

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

The dress is flawless, absolutely stunning. I love that shade of blue for evening wear, much more chic and original than black. But I think Anne should have done something different with her hair or makeup, she’s very pretty but doesn’t look it here.

Freida Pinto in Christian Lacroix Haute Couture

Absolutely love this, one of my favourite looks. Beautiful dress, and I love that she kept the accessories understated.

Eva Mendez in Dior

Hmmm not a fan. Can’t put my finger on it. It’s not very well fitting on the busy, and the stiff fabric looks a bit like paper. I like the statement necklace with the simple dress though.

Salma Hayek in Bottega Venetta

A simple dress is all that’s needed to compliment that stunning figure!! Again, keeping the accessories simple.

Kate Winslett in Yves Saint Laurent

Kate looks perfect, the dress suits her and I love the belt detail. Hair and makeup perfectly compliments the outfit.

Eva Longoria in Reem Acra

This dress looks like it was made for Eva. One of my favourite looks.

Angelina Jolie in Versace

Angie does it best in very simple, Grecian-style dresses. She looks very statuesque and beautiful. Not a fan of the hair though.

Jennifer Lopez in Marchesa

A lot of people panned this dress, but I kinda love it. Not sure it suits J.Lo’s curvy figure as much as it suits skinny models. Don’t bash me for saying that!! I’m not advocating anorexia at all, different things suit different shapes. On Jennifer, you can’t help but notice her bum, chest and figure. On a skinny model, you notice the dress.

Heidi Klum in vintage Galliano

Something different, and I love it! A bit risky for the Globes but a knee-length dress is quite refreshing. And those shoes…love them!

Beyonce in Elie Saab

Looks like B has turned her back on the Fashionista stage she started and has gone back to shiny and glamorous. It’s an alright dress, but I can’t help but think she’s uncomfortable, it looks so tight!!

Drew Barrymore in Dior

Drew looks absolutely amazing! Sexy but not in an obvious way. It’s all in the details – off the shoulder and sheer. A sheer blue dress could have gone very wrong but this is perfection. Her hair looks a bit 80s wind tunnel, but we can overlook that!

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab

I like, it’s nice to see Evan step away from Dita’s shadow and find her own style.

Kate Beckinsale in J.Mendel

I love this, it reminds me of a Cala Lilly…which is my favourite flower so it’s definitely a good thing!

Tiny Fey in unknown

Not normally a fan of black dresses but I like this.

Jane Krakowski in unknown

Love this dress, elegant and chic

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta

Love this, I think black dresses work best with some kind of texture or sparkle to add interest.

Rumer Willis in Reem Acra

Never thought I would ever write this but I love what Rumur is wearing! The colour looks great on her skin, the shape complements her and the belt is a great touch.

Blake Lively in Nina Ricci

From the waist up, I love it, from the waist down it’s boring. I was expecting more from the Gossip Girls.

Isla Fisher in Carlos Miele

I don’t think the colour suits her, but it’s a stunning dress.

Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera

A brave choice, but I’m so over black and gothic-inspired clothes. The colour of her basque is baffling me, surely black would have been a better choice? From a distance you can’t help but stare at her boobs and close up it just looks weird.

Cameron Diaz in Chanel

Cameron looks gorgeous, I expected something a bit more boring from her. Love the ring, but I think she could have done something better with the hair, it’s too casual for the Chanel.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lanvin

I love Maggie for this look! The most interesting choice on the red carpet. Love the print, the colour on her, the big bow and the nipped in waist. Perfection.

So, lessons that we’ve learnt? Accessories are out, unless it’s a subtle clutch or a bling ring. Leave the attention for your dress. Nude shades seem very popular too, as are one shoulder or strapless dresses. The big question is, what’s your favourite look?
