Wednesday Wish List: Selfridges White Christmas

30 Nov

Last week, I spied the Selfridges Christmas windows and while I wasn’t overwhelmed, I was certainly inspired. There is just something about crisp, clean white at Christmas, it’s almost iconic. All of these pieces look super pristine and are exclusive to Selfridges – I didn’t know they had such a large range of exclusive products until recently. The likes of Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors, Toywatch, Ralph Lauren and McQueen all do exclusive pieces so it’s well worth checking out if you’re after something a little special. Are you inspired by winter white this season?

H&M announce collaboration with Marni

29 Nov

This morning brings news that has the Twitterati in a buzz:
H&M’s next collaboration is with Italian luxury brand Marni. The collection
will feature menswear, womenswear and accessories and launch on 8
th
March 2012 worldwide – mark the date in your calendar. Although the well-known
brand collaborations with the likes of Versace and Jimmy Choo have done really
well for H&M and have caused overnight queues and hysteria, I think it’s a
great move for them to go with a slightly under-the-radar brand. There have
already been quips on Twitter saying the majority of the population will wonder
if Marni is somehow connected to Armani, but as one of fashion’s most-loved
labels, the collaboration is due to do very well. It’s something for
fashionistas to genuinely get excited about.

From the sneak peeks I’ve seen, Marni’s creative director Consuelo
Castiglioni has retained her signature prints, playfulness and elegance making
for some really, really striking pieces – but in a very different way to the
current Versace collection. Colours will be bold, prints will clash but in a
more refined, graceful way combined with Marni silhouettes – full pleated
skirts, dresses and cropped trousers.

“I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by
revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always,
I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus
graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements”.Consuelo Castiglioni, Founder and
Creative Director.

What do you think of the collaboration so far, will you be queuing up for a piece of Marni at H&M prices?

18 and East "Style It Your Way" Challenge

28 Nov
The lovely guys at one of my favourite high street haunts – 18 and East – recently asked me to take part in their “Style It Your Way” challenge. All I had to do was pick a piece and style it my way. Simple, non? Well no actually, I discovered the hardest part of the challenge was actually picking one piece, their AW11 collection has some really great pieces, I love the bright teal and coral pieces which are perfect for injecting some colour into your autumnal wardrobe and the cute prints are super fun.

I almost went for a lovely star printed skirt but chose this oversize waterprint chiffon shirt. The voluminous box shape just looked so easy to wear and the blurry, blotchy colours are so unique. I wore the shirt with black skinny jeans from J.Brand and brogue wedges from Bertie. The shirt is so versatile though, I’m looking forward to wearing it dressed down with studded biker boots, layered over dresses, basically with everything! How would you style up this shirt?

Introducing Tramp Vintage

27 Nov

A week ago, I popped over to Brighton to meet my friend Steph from Deer Brains and check out Brighton’s best vintage emporium – Tramp Vintage. Situated a hop and a skip away from the railway station, the stunning window immediately caught my eye. The three stunning white lace gowns in the window really made Tramp stand out in a street littered with vintage stores and gave a good indication as to what you will discover inside.

After admiring the window, I stepped inside to find a twinkly treasure trove of vintage gems. What I loved about Tramp is that it has a real high end, boutique vibe. Their vintage pieces are in immaculate condition and organised by colour making the whole store both visually appealing and easy to browse. There’s no trawling through endless rails and piles of clothing in the hopes of unearthing a gem – this is my pet hate and why I don’t often shop vintage. At Tramp, every single piece is exquisite and hung carefully, the shoes are often displayed with their boxes (including a pair of vintage Vivienne Westwood heels), jewellery is beautifully laid out, brooches are pinned to a dressmaker’s dummy. Michelle has done a fantastic job, Tramp is the most beautifully curated and kept vintage stores I’ve ever visited. If you’re in Brighton, make Tramp Vintage your number one destination, the beach and pier can wait.

Friday Fashion Fix

Barneys Gaga’s Workshop.

Lady Gaga looked absolutely stunning at the launch of Gaga’s Workshop in Barneys in New York. She wore a custom Chanel couture dress which was specially designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The workshop is on the store’s fifth floor until 2nd Jan and 25% of all sales will goto Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation which focuses on youth empowerment.

Stella McCartney and McQueen to show at London Fashion Week.

The big news this week is that two of London’s biggest fashion exports – McCartney and McQueen – will be returning to show at London Fashion Week in February. When I first heard the news, I thought it was great to have two huge British names back on our schedule. It always makes me a little sad to see our designers show overseas, although it’s obviously a great move for them and British fashion as a whole. McCartney and McQueen aren’t back for good though and it’s not their mainline shows that we’ll be seeing. McCartney will still show her collection in Paris, the London show will be a one-off capsule collection most likely connected to her role as Creative Director of Adidas Team GB. McQueen will be showing their McQ collection, prior to launching their first stand-alone store in Mayfair in Spring. I have mixed feelings about the two shows, what do you think about their return?

Sasha Pivovarova designs for Gap.

Model, painter, actress, designer. Is there nothing Sasha can’t do? The 6-piece collection consists of underwear sets, camisoles, nightdresses and boy shorts which have been inspired by fairytales. With prices starting at £12.95, the range is super affordable and would make a fab Christmas pressie for fellow fashionistas. Is it just me or does the illustration remind anyone of the Prada SS 2006 and 2008 campaigns?

Selfridges Winter White Christmas Windows

24 Nov

On Sunday, I strolled past Selfridges and the corner window caught my eye – it was snowing! The snow machine was incredible, totally mesmerising. My picture really doesn’t do it justice, you really must see it for yourself and also wind up the musical wind up window, which really worked much to my surprise.

The theme for this year is winter white; not only are the windows white, every product is a crisp, pristine shade of ivory white. The Roksanda Illincic dress was my favourite piece and the paper bells were my favourite window adornment. To be honest, it wasn’t my favourite window Christmas window at Selfridges but it still bought a smile to my face. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….
