In Memorandum: Corrine Day 1962-2010

31 Aug

This post is dedicated to the memory of British fashion photographer Corrine Day, who sadly lost her fight with cancer this weekend. She first rose to prominence in the early 1990s, as one of the pioneers of candid, relatively unstyled images. This was a sharp contrast to the super -groomed, ultra-glossy images of iconic supermodels at the time. She is probably best known for her images of Kate Moss, who she is credited with discovering.

Sheer skirt obsession

30 Aug

Lately, I’ve become obsessed with sheer skirts. I know some of you may think a sheer skirt is a bit silly and impractical, but bear with me. They have already made the transition from catwalk to celeb – Dior and Jens Laugesen put them on the catwalk seasons ago and the Olsens are loving them. Now, the likes of Topshop are starting to embrace sheer skirts in a much more wearable way than couture shows or red carpet events will allow. Not so scary, right? I don’t think the Topshop ones are in store yet, so I may have to attempt making one. I may just figure out what to wear with it by the time I get around to making it!

New season Uggs

28 Aug

Now I know this  post is going to be slightly controversial. Every so often there will be a form of footwear which will divide fashion opinions like the Red Sea, i.e. Uggs and Crocs. The Crocs debate is easy, I think they are a ridiculous eyesore but I’m more on the fence with Uggs. I don’t own any myself but I cursed myself for my lack of warm, practical footwear during winter – especially during the snow. But I know there are plenty of you out there who wouldn’t wear them come hell or highwater. I think the new collection might just change your perception though.

I’m not a big fan of the ubiquitous sheepskin ones, but I’ve secretly quite liked the knitted ones for a while. The sheepskin ones have been worn by one too many WAGs for my liking. The new collection at Daniel Footwear is a subtle shift away from the classic Uggs, as well as being knitted they have fringing and big buttons – it’s all in the details.Think you can handle the new Ugg Boots A/W 2010 collection yet?

Aussie Colour Mate party

25 Aug

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to the Aussie Colour Mate party, and was literally counting down the weeks, days and minutes til it kicked off. Wondering what the heck a Colour Mate party is? Well, all of my fellow Aussie angels have been split into hair tribes and as someone who frequently abuses their hair with all sorts of dyes and colourants, the Colour Mate tribe seemed like a natural fit for me. The guys at Aussie have arranged parties for all the tribes to meet up and learn how to look after our hair. We were asked to dress up as our hair colour idol, I had so many! I was tempted to go as Leigh Lezark from The Misshapes, Rihanna and Katy Perry. I decided (on the day) that Katy would be the most fun to dress up as, even if she cheats and wears wigs rather than dying her hair blue and purple.

We had oodles of coloured cocktails to carry on the colour theme and super stylists Amber and Zara showed us how to make the most of our locks without heat styling. We even had the most amazing Lady Gaga and Beyonce impersonators ever! We also had a little mini hair makeovers which are always fab. I had a plait which went over one shoulder and some loose curls. It was lovely to catch up with fellow bloggers Tor from Fab Frocks, Kristabel from I Want You To Know, Maria from Mediacation, Christina from A Sense Sublime and Lucy from Snippets of Shiny Thoughts

Model Spotlight: Eniko Mihalik

24 Aug

Hungarian model Eniko Mihalik was discovered after taking part in Elite Model Look in 2002. After coming fourth, she had a quiet couple of years. She debuted at the Chanel couture show in 2006 and walked for a handful of designers before her big break last year. During the Spring/Summer 2009 shows, she walked for a staggering 50 designers including Givenchy, Diane von Furtenberg and Marchesa. This year, she has opened or closed for the likes of Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Jeremy Scott and Carolina Herrera.

Shortly after her super season, Ines van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin put her on an exclusive 6 month contract. She now has the honour of being their muse.

She’s a regular on the campaign trail, and is the face of Gucci, Kenzo and MaxMara under her belt. She’s also a magazine regular and has had a couple of stunning cover shots, my favourite is her i-D cover. She has been featured in editorials for the likes of Italian Vogue, French Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar  and W magazine.

The Love Magazine covers

23 Aug

Love Magazine is out today! The highly anticipated issue has eight different cover looks, the Rosie one has been circulated for a few weeks now and Models.com previewed the rest over the last week. Though I love the Rosie cover, I thought she looked almost unrecognisable from her normal self. A few of the other covers also follow suit – Gisele and Sienna both look very different to how they normally do. The Burla cover is also very interesting, a lot of people are suggesting it’s either Gemma Ward or signals her return to modelling. Which is your favourite?!

I’m sure there are plenty of other reasons why this issue is so highly anticipated, but one (major) reason for me is that my gorgeous dwarf lop ear bunny Bob Snufflekins has made it to the Love Magazine Britain’s Next Top Bunny final! We had a shoot in a studio a couple of weeks ago, poor Bob was so traumatised by the tube that I don’t think he photographed well, he was too tense and frightened to let his personality show. But anyone who follows me on Twitter and sees the twitpics I post is sure to agree he’s got to be the winner! This picture was taken from their website, how exciting!

Mulberry x Target collaboration

21 Aug

I love Mulberry, I have a new obsession every season. Last season it was the Alexa, now I’m lusting after the gorgeous Neely. In my head, I own half a dozen Mulberrys but in reality the price points are a little high for me. That’s why I’ve been looking out for a collaboration for ages. I still regret not hunting down the red jersey Bayswater they designed for a collaboration with Gap. Target have lined up the highly covetable British label for their next collaboration, which is out in stores in October. There will be eight styles inspired by the main line but no replicas. The best part? They will be at Target prices, roughly under $100. Yesterday, Gilt.com had a 36-hour exclusive online preview which sold out immediately, literally 2 minutes after it opened all 5 styles they had were sold out. Sure to be a sell out in stores too.
